Summit Clearing Aug 21 11

This is a test… pretty small file too. (we have to watch our upload/download file sizes here.) Anyways, I am testing my equipment for cold weather timelapse and I think I have a system that will work at minus conditons. Todays test worked well without my next addition which will basically be a small soft sided cooler with a lens cut out. I am using an AC power cord for the camera and I am keeping the timer unit along side the AC transformer with a Grabber toe-warmer with adhesive stuck to it and both stuffed into a Crown Royal bag insulated with pile. It worked fine for about the six hour limit on the toe warmer. Temps got down to around -18f. For colder temps down the road I plan on trying some Grabber body warmer pads with adhesive inside the above mentioned soft cooler bag. Intended subjects…. hopefully auroras and maybe solar or lunar optical events… halos, sundogs, arcs pillars etc. Now we just need bring it on! Summit Station, Greenland… top of the ice sheet (wish I had the Crown Royal too!!)

Greencore Solar AC

The inherent problem with solar-powered air conditioners is that solar panels aren’t efficient enough to power the power hungry machines on their own. Greencore has come up with a solution to that problem. Their 10200 model uses a single 170-watt solar panel during the day and electricity during the night, leading to massive electricity savings even if the unit isn’t 100% solar-powered.
